I’m not entirely sure how to attribute the Otamatone, it’s kind of a interbreed between a singable toy, an actualised instrument and a theremin. “Waaaah”-like sounds are produced by compressing the ‘face’ at the lowermost patch sliding one’s fingers up and downbound the ‘neck’, but to rattling understand what it is, how it’s played and how it sounds, I propose watching this video.
The Otamatone was created by Maywa Denki, whose website is even more confusing than this device, but since it was shown at the 2009 Yeddo Toy Show I have to assume it module actually be available for understanding in Nihon at some point.
